Time Article... "Storm Over the Mormons"

The Time magazine article that was supposed to be out months ago has finally hit newsstands. Unfortunately it is completely Prop 8 based despite Time magazine's promise that it wouldn't be (Salt Lake has already called them on it since they had that promise in writing)...but the writer didn't intend it to be. The editor cut a third of the story just in the last couple days and that was the part all about LDS families. I can see how magazines are not doing well financially... this reporter spent a week with several LDS families back in February and has been working on the story ever since... that's a lot of money and time to go into a story that turned out to be not such a big deal. My parents for one are grateful its not a big story... they aren't too big of fans of the picture of them though...haha. In the magazine the pic takes up 3/4 the page! Yikes! And the article I think does a decent job... it could have been a lot worse that's for sure (especially after some of the dirty tricks Time played... like sending out a gay photographer with his partner who were hired to take the pictures just for this specific story and ask more questions trying to be confrontational...I couldn't believe that one...good thing my parents are very tactful and just sat around the kitchen table and talked with the photographers for over an hour explaining our views. The word from the Quorum of the 12 in regards to the article is "We are not at all unhappy." Haha

Anyways... here's the web address for the story...

thanks for sending the link. i've been wondering what happened to the article. it sucks that they took out that chunk, but overall i was 'ok' with the article.
i didn't like how the author put his two-cents in about what Ballard said about the church principals or it being easy to follow.
The guy had to say, " Actually, it's not easy." what the freak...hahaha ppl are so closed minded!
what makes me happy is that we're growing every year, everyday, everywhere! thanks for the post!

Thanks for sharing Lisa. I've been wondering about it - and I knew you'd have the info when it came out. It's too bad there wasn't space to include more of all the things the reporter did when he was out here.

Thanks for sharing! Overall it wasn't bad, though still kind of snarky. (Since when does President Monson "transmit orders"?) I thought your parents were, of course, very well spoken. The Bay Area will miss them, I'm sure!

I noticed in every picture there is not one where members of the church are smiling. To even get a picture of a Sister Missionary not smiling takes some extreme talent...just another example of media bias!

Tell your mom and dad they did great! Media sure has an edit button! Thanks for the link, the article was alright.

Adam and I were talking about this article last night and how we hadn't heard anything about it, so thanks for the updates! Despite all of the bias and negative attention the church gets, it's so great to know that no matter what, THE GOSPEL IS TRUE! :)

Just read the article and thought I'd stop by to comment. I enjoyed it, but I also know things that make complete sense to us because we believe them, sound crazy to other people. Oh well. Your parents did a good job and I think the picture of them was nice. Hope you're doing well. I'm kind of bummed we never ran into each other before we moved to reminisce about our sand volleyball days.
