Playing in Utah for the 4th

We played with John's family over the 4th of July weekend. This is us at the Provo parade... Mia couldn't get enough of the princesses and marching band. I loved watching her march in place as she watched the bands :) And I'll tell you that the Potters know how to do a parade... the family set up canopies so we were shaded and we ate french toast with blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream while we watched. That's sooo the way to do it!

This is up at Park City. My sister Megan is behind me... it was so fun that she got to join us and play too since she is currently a BYU student and lives in Utah.

Mia and John loved the Alpine slide... it's where you take a ski lift to the top of the mountain and ride on the wheeled cart down a cement slide. I was the photographer this weekend... no alpine slide or softball playing for the pregnant one :)

Called to Serve

My mom and dad were set apart on Wednesday to preside over the Berlin Germany Mission. President Uchtdorff set my dad apart and Elder Rasband set apart my mom.

This is the crew who got to attend the setting aparts, my mom's parents, my dad's mom, my sister Megan and my brother Mike. All said it was one of the most amazing experiences they've ever had.

So my parents have been in the MTC with 100 other mission presidents the past couple days. Today they had a special sacrament meeting where President Monson spoke and the first presidency attended. As did all but one of the Quorum of the Twelve, 7 Presidents of the 70, the Presiding Bishopric, and many of the 70. Missionaries passed them the sacrament and it has again one of the those fantastic experiences that I think is just the beginning for them. I look forward to hearing more once they get to Germany tomorrow. I've been going through withdrawals having them leave... especially after they stayed with us for the last 3 1/2 weeks... the house seems a bit empty. But I know that they were called of God to serve and they will do a fantastic job.

Photo Shoot

At a BBQ we were at the other day Mia and her friend Gracie had an impromptu photo shoot. Gracie's mom took the pics and did a great job. I love the contrast between the light and dark complexions... so fun!

Time Article... "Storm Over the Mormons"

The Time magazine article that was supposed to be out months ago has finally hit newsstands. Unfortunately it is completely Prop 8 based despite Time magazine's promise that it wouldn't be (Salt Lake has already called them on it since they had that promise in writing)...but the writer didn't intend it to be. The editor cut a third of the story just in the last couple days and that was the part all about LDS families. I can see how magazines are not doing well financially... this reporter spent a week with several LDS families back in February and has been working on the story ever since... that's a lot of money and time to go into a story that turned out to be not such a big deal. My parents for one are grateful its not a big story... they aren't too big of fans of the picture of them though...haha. In the magazine the pic takes up 3/4 the page! Yikes! And the article I think does a decent job... it could have been a lot worse that's for sure (especially after some of the dirty tricks Time played... like sending out a gay photographer with his partner who were hired to take the pictures just for this specific story and ask more questions trying to be confrontational...I couldn't believe that one...good thing my parents are very tactful and just sat around the kitchen table and talked with the photographers for over an hour explaining our views. The word from the Quorum of the 12 in regards to the article is "We are not at all unhappy." Haha

5 Years!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this weekend! Crazy! Five years! So to celebrate we took advantage of having my parents around (they are staying with us for a few weeks before they leave for Germany for their mission) and left Mia at home. John and I drove to Half Moon Bay just south of SF on the coast and stayed in the same Bed & Breakfast where we had spent our honeymoon. At breakfast we met a couple from BYU-Idaho who were honeymooning... were we that young and wide-eyed when we got married??? Yup! Probably so! Hehe.



On our honeymoon driving down the California Coast 5 years ago we found a street sign for Potter Ave and took a pic with it... and sure enough this weekend we found another Potter Ave. Haha. This pic was from this past weekend. It was so nice to have a little getaway... and its so fun to come home again and have Mia actually excited to see me... She never gets a chance to miss me because we are ALWAYS together so that was an added bonus :)
